Art Creations Friday "Princess"

I've been out of town and busy this week, but I did squeeze in this week's Art Creations Friday challenge. Here is my girl. Her head is from the challenge photo given to us. The background and flowers are from a photograph that I took last month. Worked it and re-painted it turning it into this. Home is Where I Left my Scissors

Being that my house is always in somewhat of disarray - I'm always searching for something, usually a pair of scissors (which we have many-just never can find them), and feeling like a chicken with my head cut off - This is what I came up with. Regardless, my home is still where my heart is (and my scissors)

Portuguese Bend, Palos Verdes, California

Today we went to my in-law's home for Easter ~ where my hub grew up; Rancho Palos Verdes, California. We drove through Portuguese Bend, stopping by our good friend, T. H. Redfield, Jr., the Great Grandson of the American Impressionist Edward Willis Redfield. Below is a photo of him telling my kids about the geological facts of the slide area. We call him "Uncle Tom". Below is the view from his house. His house is technically considered in the slide area, however, it's braced by one of the peninsulas.

The next photo is of a Peacock... one of six that were in a tree. Tom said they are annoying, they eat all the flowers on the bushes. And it is mating season. We could hear them calling each other... very loudly. It was amazing to me to see so many around. This one in the tree was a young one. His tail feathers weren't long. And did you know they fly? There were six in this tree and as I walked carefully closer, trying not to disturb them, they would, one by one, swoop up to the next tree branch.

I took a few pics of Tom's paintings and there are so many that I love, I can't even begin to chose a favorite ~ however, this is one I decided to post.

The next photo shows a portion of his studio and on the easel you can see the painting that I posted resting on the easel.

Happy Easter!

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter! Here are some blown out eggs that I painted back in the early 80's. Sheesh-- seems like just last year, but when I typed that it sounds sooooo long ago! What I find funny is that I didn't paint anything with Easter related or even spring related art. Go figure. Guess I just painted what I liked at the time!

Blurred

This week's theme for Photo Friday is 'blurred'. Here is a photo that I took at a Lucky Strike Bowling party for our National Charity League Father/Daughter event last week. The girls had so much fun with their dads. It really was fun to watch them interact. They cheered each other on and literally leaped out of their seats when someone would get a strike. Fun times had by all!

Beauty

I used a photograph that I took of a painting by Modigliani and in photo shop, used it as a template/guide. I layered over it and repainted a new version.

Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena, CA.

Yesterday my mom and I took Katie and her friend to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. Katie's teacher suggests museums for the kids to go to in order for them to "pass" on a test. He calls it a detour. I call it a by pass. (Makes Kate crazy when I miss quote him) After we had done our "work", we went out to the garden. There is where I took these photos.

Snap On!

Happy Friday! There's one thing I've wanted to share with all of you and I haven't had the chance. This week has been a blur. Frantically making weepuls (hundreds of them) for the middle school's jog-a-thon. Squirrels, whales, goldfish.... Oh and trophies. Which I didn't take photos of. (Why I always leave things to the last minute--argh--I'll put 'change that behavior' on my list of things to do.) But that's not it. For those who haven't seen this site, it is a newsletter photo site that I receive their newsletters via e-mail. "Photojojo." There you will find tons of different things to do with your camera, techniques, fun creations you can make, and things you can buy if you want. What I like the most about it is that you don't have to pay for being a member and they don't send you spam junk. Safe, fun, and interactive. YOU can also submit ideas for them to post. So I challenge all of you "oh so extremely creative types", get on it and submit! (No I am not getting paid for this. And I don't advertise on my site.) But when I saw this photo that they sent on the newsletter today, I thought, OK, now I've got to send this one out.

I think we can all relate to the "Keep Calm and Snap On" quote.

Hey, I almost toppled over my camera on a tripod at a wedding, had my hair sitting in holy water during down time at a church, and had goop on my lens and couldn't figure out why the photos were looking cloudy-but gave everything a really interesting look! HBHS Swim Meet

Today is Wednesday... Watery Wednesday! I like these two photos because of how the water reacts. I suspect the coach wouldn't want to see the first one. Isn't the dive too vertical for a good take off? But LOVE the legs in the air!

I would be afraid to take a breath with all this water around my mouth!

Great piece of art and I have no idea on how it was originally made!

Below is another one that I came up with. Can you find the common denominator?

I had to tweak it quite a bit. I took the butterfly and cut him up. Made him into more of a painted version, sliced his wings, made him fly and gave him a poem to live for.

I Know, I'm Nuts.

"Masculine" is today's theme at 'Theme Thursday'. This might just be a stretch, but here you go! (OK, it's my assumption that this squirrel is male) My masculine card for the day. It originally started out as a photograph that I took of a squirrel. I enhanced his nice grin and gave him a flower. Paint by Pixel is what I call it. And the background, well that was the original ground that he was standing on. Just worked it to death! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Today is my dad's birthday. He would have been 80 today. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. He passed away 13 years ago from cancer... when my youngest was only 10 months old. I see him in my kids, I admire who he was and I wish I could be more like him. He was a very mild mannered man who carefully chose his words. He was respected in the architectural industry. Trustworthy and dependable. A good christian husband to my mom who misses him terribly. Could it be almost their 60th wedding anniversary coming up?

Six three and thin. An avid golfer, loved to work, and loved to laugh. Here is one of his last buildings that he designed. The Harborplace Towers in Long Beach, California. He definitely left his mark.

Only Have Eye For You

Hello Fellow Bloggers. My computer has been in the shop for almost 2 weeks now. Up and down with whether they could do CPR on it or not. So in the meantime, I have installed new office furniture, put my Xmas gift (mac) on my new desk and uploaded photo shop. It has only taken me 3 days to put all the furniture together and 3 hours to figure how to upload a photo onto PS without it giving me the "program error." Anyhow, I only have a few photos on this new computer and they are ones that my daughter and I played around with via the photo booth on the mac. This is her eye. I tweaked it with PS.

I'm hoping to be back in the game of blogging soon. Lots to learn. Especially at my age.

HBHS Highs and Lows

Today's entry for Thursday's Challenge is "High or Low". This photo is one that I took yesterday from the news central van at the Huntington Beach High School during the bomb threat. http://prizlerphotography.blogspot.com/2010/03/huntington-beach-high-school-bomb.html And actually, THAT should be the real "high and low." The kids that I carpool were all talking about it on the way to school this morning. One "high" was that they got to leave campus early yesterday, the "low" was that they heard the district would have to tack on an extra day of school to make up for it. Hopefully for the kid who pulled the prank - or whatever it was - he will be moved to another school. Can you imagine the wrath of 3,000 students on one who caused an extra day of school? Geesh.

I really hope that the Principal (who by the way, handled everything extremely well) will give the kids an explanation of what occurred. They need to know the truth and not all the rumors that are flying.

For those who aren't familiar with HBHS, it is located directly across the street from the Police Station. Of all the locations around, this is by far, the most ideal. When my daughter text me about what was happening, my first reaction was to let her know she was safe and it would all be fine. Her MAJOR low for the day was that she was to have her braces taken off just at the time they were evacuating everyone and putting the entire school on lock down. And to a seventeen year old, that is a major low.

Huntington Beach High School Bomb Threat 3-3-10

Interesting Day. One kid decided to threaten the school today. Someone mentioned that he considers himself like the Joker and wanted to blow up the school like in the movie. (Seems he considers himself an artist.) He was wearing a trench coat and wouldn't take it off. He was in the library at the time. The school evacuated all the students and the police placed the suspect in custody. In this photo you can barely see the bomb squad's unit. It's to the left of the white truck. All the streets were completely blocked off and no access to the school or the cars, bikes, etc. that were already on campus. The school acted quickly and I have to say that the police and fire department were there in full force.

One of my daughter's friends said that there is another boy that talks about doing things like this a lot. And it's not the boy that did this today. This was a good lesson for all of us. The authorities need to learn about this other kid and we all need to talk to our kids about what to do "if".

The schools reaction was appropriate and luckily the incident was acted upon swiftly. Now, who pays for all this?? Humm... maybe the parents of the student?

"Leave it to Facebook to have a group about the bomb threat two hours after it happened"
