Only Have Eye For You

Hello Fellow Bloggers. My computer has been in the shop for almost 2 weeks now. Up and down with whether they could do CPR on it or not. So in the meantime, I have installed new office furniture, put my Xmas gift (mac) on my new desk and uploaded photo shop. It has only taken me 3 days to put all the furniture together and 3 hours to figure how to upload a photo onto PS without it giving me the "program error." Anyhow, I only have a few photos on this new computer and they are ones that my daughter and I played around with via the photo booth on the mac. This is her eye. I tweaked it with PS.

I'm hoping to be back in the game of blogging soon. Lots to learn. Especially at my age.

HBHS Highs and Lows

Today's entry for Thursday's Challenge is "High or Low". This photo is one that I took yesterday from the news central van at the Huntington Beach High School during the bomb threat. http://prizlerphotography.blogspot.com/2010/03/huntington-beach-high-school-bomb.html And actually, THAT should be the real "high and low." The kids that I carpool were all talking about it on the way to school this morning. One "high" was that they got to leave campus early yesterday, the "low" was that they heard the district would have to tack on an extra day of school to make up for it. Hopefully for the kid who pulled the prank - or whatever it was - he will be moved to another school. Can you imagine the wrath of 3,000 students on one who caused an extra day of school? Geesh.

I really hope that the Principal (who by the way, handled everything extremely well) will give the kids an explanation of what occurred. They need to know the truth and not all the rumors that are flying.

For those who aren't familiar with HBHS, it is located directly across the street from the Police Station. Of all the locations around, this is by far, the most ideal. When my daughter text me about what was happening, my first reaction was to let her know she was safe and it would all be fine. Her MAJOR low for the day was that she was to have her braces taken off just at the time they were evacuating everyone and putting the entire school on lock down. And to a seventeen year old, that is a major low.

Huntington Beach High School Bomb Threat 3-3-10

Interesting Day. One kid decided to threaten the school today. Someone mentioned that he considers himself like the Joker and wanted to blow up the school like in the movie. (Seems he considers himself an artist.) He was wearing a trench coat and wouldn't take it off. He was in the library at the time. The school evacuated all the students and the police placed the suspect in custody. In this photo you can barely see the bomb squad's unit. It's to the left of the white truck. All the streets were completely blocked off and no access to the school or the cars, bikes, etc. that were already on campus. The school acted quickly and I have to say that the police and fire department were there in full force.

One of my daughter's friends said that there is another boy that talks about doing things like this a lot. And it's not the boy that did this today. This was a good lesson for all of us. The authorities need to learn about this other kid and we all need to talk to our kids about what to do "if".

The schools reaction was appropriate and luckily the incident was acted upon swiftly. Now, who pays for all this?? Humm... maybe the parents of the student?

This was my conversation with my daughter last night when I found out our family member had passed on. Yes, Marina died. Did I kill her? Don't think so. Did I try my hardest to keep her alive? Humm... well.... uh... yes. I followed the instructions, changed her water, added the solutions, fed her, and daily - even though my hub said she didn't need it. (Humm.. maybe... it was hub sabotage?) No-- can't imagine that. Anyhow, I add fish onto my list of things I can't keep alive. (Sorry Griffin!) So, if I don't have a green thumb, do I now not have a blue thumb too?Here is Marina as a photographic watercolor. May she rest in pee.

Ticktocker Mystery Outing

We belong to National Charity League. What is it? A philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. (Also to foster the Mother-Daughter relationship... and with teenagers, that can be quite a task!) My Watery Wednesday shots are from our mystery outing. The girls had a great time kayaking through the harbor. It was a gloomy day, but they didn't mind.

Heads or Tails: Light or Dark

This week's theme is light or dark. This photo has both, light and dark. I took it while on a houseboating trip at Lake Powell. The rock formations are amazing. The section on the left looks to me as if it is a face. See the eye? And the mouth? Even the shadow looks like it is a face. Would I ever go houseboating again?

Mortuary ahead....

Yesterday I went for a 4 mile walk/jog and as I crossed the street I saw about seven scrawny young punky teenagers crammed in a mini cooper. I kept my eyes where I was jogging and continued down the street. A couple hundred yards later that same mini cooper whizzed past me with those same scrawny punks screaming, "Hasta la vista, baby!" Well, I sure would hope that their cooper could pass a 52 year old woman jogging on the road. Geez.

Today I went for my 8 miler. I was able to keep it about a 12 minute mile. I'm fine with that. I'm a plodder. Slow and steady - the turtle in the race.My quote for the day is:

A new meme has come to my attention thanks to the Art Creations Friday, and that is Postcard Sunday! Again, I love a challenge! In keeping with Valentine's Day, this week's theme is "Cupid." I have never really thought very highly of Val's Day. Guess my mom pounded it into my head that it was Hallmark's way of making more money. So with that I titled mine "Retaliation." The cupid is from a painting titled "L'Amour au Papillon (Cupid with a Butterfly) by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The pillars are from a photo of mine taken at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Dee's House - Straight Out of the Camera Sunday

Here is my Straight Out of the Camera Sunday shot:And an update on the progress of Dee's House in Fountain Valley. Yesterday I went to K's women's residential sober living facility to take photos of the inside of the house for her brochure and website. This is one of the bedrooms. Her goal is to make you feel like you're going to Grandmother's house. Very quaint and comfortable. K has done a remarkable job so far and it is really fun to watch the transition!

Shark Infested Waters

This weeks theme is this beautiful angel. The challenge is to take it and interpret or use it in something else. I chose to do something a bit different.

Life Behind Bars

Life behind a chain link fence. Too can play that game..... Here's one that I have to admit, I was grateful for the chain link fence.
And the last captive critter made me so sad. All it wanted was some love. This little fox was the sweetest animal. It came to me and let me pet it as much as I could through the chain link fence. Blackie, Brownie & Whitey

Once upon a time three little horses, Blackie, Brownie and Whitey, grazed together in a meadow full of lovely thick grass. Wherever one went, the other two followed. One day they met an artist named Peter, who was so happy to have met them. "We shall have good times together, you'll see." he told the three little horses.

These characters reminded me of the book, "Three Little Horses" written and illustrated by Piet Worm. It was first introduced the year I was born, 1958 and was my all time favorite book. (Still is today)

Watery Wednesday

For today's Watery Wednesday, I decided to go back to this year's water polo photos. I love to watch water polo. These kids are in deep water. They can not stand or use the bottom of the pool however, they have an incredible strength to scissor kick themselves up to get higher than their opponent. I also love what the water does in photos. And there is ALWAYS a lot of water. I don't know how they can even see where they need to throw the ball, but they manage to do quite well!For many more Watery Wednesday shots, visit:

My Three Kids

Heads or Tails theme this week is: Tails - Three. We are supposed to make any kind of post listing 3 things from any category we choose. Humm... I can't keep anything to three with the exception of the three things that made my life begin. I always wanted kids. Went to school for my MRS. degree. And if it hadn't been for the fact that I didn't have my first one until I was 36, I would have continued to have more. Even though my teenagers don't "love" me back right now, I still cherish the ground they leave clothes on.This is one of my all time favorite photos of them.

Macro Monday - Puff Ball

I found this bush of puff balls on my way home yesterday. They remind me of my childhood. I always find them fascinating. Don't you? I like the contrast of the vibrant blooming one, next to the sad dead one, with the berries in the center.
